An organic food product is independently certified. This certification is about all the process of transformation, and includes that agricultural products are grown and produced without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge, and that the final product do not contain ingredient genetically engineered or subjected to irradiation. Today, driven by healthy-conscious and environmentally-aware consumers, the global market for organic food and beverages is growing by 15 to 20% per year, with North America and Western Europe leading the way.
MicroGARD Fermentates have been used in organic products for many years. Most recently, Danisco launched two new certified organic products to fill the need of the organic market for natural protection against yeast, mould and spoilage organisms such as Pseudomonas. These products supplement our organic-compliant HOLDBAC™ Protective Cultures.
Dairy products are the top application area, followed by bakery products and ready meals. According to Euromonitor International, the organic growth outlook is also good for canned and chilled process food, soups and pasta and is moving to non-food segments such as personal care or household products.
